COREED
has been working in the costal areas of Prakasam and
Nellore Districts of Andhra Pradesh since 1987.
Please visit our website at www.coreed.org
to know
more about COREED and it's activities.
It was 26th December,2004 when all the poor
villagers who reside in small huts and make living
on fishing and as agricultural labours entered into
the work for fishing in the sea and some started
their day to earn their bread for the day. Suddenly
at 6:30 am big tide came with lots of ferocity
crossing it's normal limits to at least 4 kilometers
in to the human habitation taking children, women
and men into the sea. This has caused many deaths
and causalities. The missing number is more then
2,000 and NGOs say that more then 105 people died.
It did not come to a position to confirm the deaths,
missing and property losses by the volunteers but
extended their help to the victims in Prakasam and
Nellore Districts of Andhra Pradesh. |

COREED
Relief Work |
Knowing
the situation COREED team visited the effected
villages in Prakasam and Nellore Districts and moved
with compassion seeing the human loss and the property
damages. The immediate need of these people was to
provide food and clothing and temporary shelters.
COREED prepared fresh food for over 5,000 people and
distributed them in the villages and in the temporary
camps along with fresh water.
Secondly COREED extended its help to the victims of
Prakasam and Nellore districts with relief material of
blankets, bedsheets,buckets,jugs,plates,drinking
glasses, utensils and rice. The Friends of COREED
Switzerland, European Baptist Mission, Prediger Church
Zurich, Reformed Churches Zurich Kanton, Basel Kanton
Cathidral and the Baptist Churches came forward to
help these Tsunami victims in this area. COREED is
thankful to these generous hearts for their
contribution in the hour of need.
It was
a great human catastrophe in the lives of thousands
and thousands of people who lived in the costal areas.
The Director of COREED, Rev.Dr.Jaya Paul Ravela said
that " the initial target of COREED is to help
the victims with immediate relief, and subsequently
concentrate on the rehabilitation of these unfortunate
ones by consulting the local government officials and
the NGOs in the worst affected villages of Prakasam
and Nellore Districts of Andhra Pradesh".
COREED also found in its survey that most of the
relief delivered by the government and the NGOs went
to the strong people who could dare to divert the
relief material trucks to their villages. It was
unfortunate that even in this situation the Dalits and
Adivasis living in costal areas do not have voice and
therefore could not get much help. COREED has
concentrated in these areas to extend the immediate
relief.

Medical Work |
COREED
has increased it's regular Prediger Church
Medical Project 2005 medical work with the needed
medicine for Tsunami victims in costal villages and
conducted continuous health camps to avoid epidemics.
Yet there is lot more to do as the impact of Tsunami
is so deep that there is more to contribute.

What
do they need now |
The
relief extended to these people is inadequate.
They need more blankets, bed sheets, buckets,
jugs, plates, drinking glasses, utensils, rice,
pulses and medicine to stop the epidemics as an
immediate relief.
Besides
this these people also need rehabilitation. For
this they neeed nets,boats,cooking material,
small aggricultural material which they lost and
permanent concrete shelters for living.
COREED
wants you the reader to bring hope to these
Tsunami victims who lost hope in their lives.
· Hundreds of children below 10 years lost
their parents
· Hundreds of children lost their study
material
· Hundreds of elderly and young women became
widows in just 4 minutes
· Hundreds of people lost their lively hood
We need to bring these people to normal living.
Let us put our hands together and help the
victims.
Please
extend your help to these Tsunami victims
according to your ability.
